Alpha Flight Returns?

Canadian superhero team Alpha Flight are to return to the Marvel Universe this autumn.

The team’s comeback ties in with the upcoming ‘Chaos War’ event that begins in October. It will be told in a one-shot issue written by Jim McCann and illustrated by Reilly Brown.

The original Alpha Flight met their demise in New Avengers #16 when most of the team perished while battling a powerful being known as The Collective.

Marvel relaunched the team in the 2007 miniseries Omega Flight along with a number of new recruits, but the series didn’t prove popular with readers and wasn’t continued following its conclusion.

“Each of those relaunches had their own different takes on the team that was different from Alpha Flight’s original run,” McCann told Comic Book Resources of why his relaunch will stay true to the team’s original nature.

The one-shot will somehow resurrect original members Guardian, Vindicator, Shaman and Marrina to join their former teammates Sasquatch, Northstar, Aurora and Snowbird.

McCann has been coy about whether popular Alpha Flight original Puck will also be appearing, only suggesting that his fate will be addressed.

The writer further suggested that a positive response to the issue could result in more Alpha Flight projects down the line.
